Slim Snacking on the Go

Updated: Sep 13, 2020

Like many of you I have a really hectic daily routine. Between working full-time, volunteering, family obligations, social engagements and on and on it’s hard to have time to prepare healthy meals and snacks. I’ve really had to learn to plan my meals and keep healthy snacks with me at all times so I don’t end up eating things I shouldn’t.

I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) which causes insulin resistance, so weight gain can easily become a problem for me. I can’t say that I follow a specific diet, i.e. Keto, Paleo, South Beach, etc. I do try to choose low glycemic index foods. Therefore, I avoid added sugars, bread, pasta, and any other foods containing white flour, potatoes, fried foods, and rice.

I do not eat red meat due to my history of high cholesterol. I also do not use artificial sweeteners as I do not feel they are healthy. I do eat chicken, fish, fruit, non-starchy vegetables, almond and coconut flour, quinoa, plant-based pastas and dairy in moderation.

Below are some of the snacks that I keep handy

I love olives. I buy little individual packs and keep them in my desk at work. I also add a pack to a simple salad for more variety.

These are great! Zero calories of crunchy goodness.

All Realgood products are rather awesome. I get the cheese pizza because I don’t eat pepperoni. The “crust” of the pizza is made of chicken. Sounds weird, but it’s really good. I also like the Realgood enchiladas.

Who would have thought that you could turn chicken in to chips? These are a little salty but tasty. They are lower in carbs than regular chips, making them a lesser evil. However, make sure you stick to the serving size. They are after all still chips.

These chips are corn, gluten, dairy, and soy free. They are made with cassava and coconut flour and ground chia seed. They don’t taste exactly like traditional tortilla chips, but they aren’t bad. I like them with guacamole and hummus. I even use them to make nachos with ground turkey and shredded cheese.

These muffins are sinfully delicious. For me it was love at first bite. They contain 12g (about 3 teaspoons) of sugar, which isn’t horrible for a muffin. They are also made from almond and coconut flour.

Where do I begin? This stuff is amazing! From the individually wrapped packaging to the oh so fabulous taste…I’m totally hooked. Theses generous-sized squares of creamy goodness are only 120 calories and are sweetened naturally with monk fruit. I’m sure there’s at least one of these little bars swimming around in my purse right now!

I like to keep jerky as a snack because it’s a good, non-perishable source of protein. Because I do not eat beef, I’m always looking for a tasty turkey jerky, and this one is just that. This jerky is flavorful, tender, and filling.

Beanitos Mac N’ Cheese are non-GMO, low glycemic index and very tasty. If you’re looking for a healthier alternative to traditional cheese puffs, look no further.

Safe Catch Elite Tuna is sustainably caught and low in mercury. The non-perishable, single-serving pouches are a good choice because you can easily take one with you when you’re on-the-go.
